Simple Geometric Quilting is a design and education studio dedicated to modernizing the tradition of craft and making quilting accessible to all.

A sister brand to Vacilando Studios, which was founded by designer Laura Preston in 2015, Simple Geometric Quilting began with the publishing of its namesake book of quilt patterns in 2019. We believe quilting should be approachable, everyone is creative, and perfection is overrated.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Laura Preston is an artist, designer, and entrepreneur with a chronic case of wanderlust. Raised in Texas and London, Laura studied art history and painting at New York University before embarking on a year-long road trip around the United States in 2013. She ended up living, working, and traveling in her custom-built vintage Airstream trailer with her husband, two dogs, and cat until 2019, when she settled down in a mid-century home in the Texas Hill Country.

Completely self-taught (with the help of the internet), Laura discovered the medium of textiles and quilting while traveling, and she feel in love with the utility and beauty of the craft. In February of 2015, she launched her business, Vacilando Quilting Co. (now Vacilando Studios). Laura specializes in creating travel-inspired quilt collections, making one-of-a-kind custom pieces, and collaborating with like-minded brands, artists, and interior designers. She’s grown Vacilando Studios organically over the years and developed a unique, recognizable style coveted by fellow quilters, travelers, and clients who value quality, a minimalist aesthetic, and a little adventure in life.

“As a self-taught quilter who’s spent hundreds of hours googling quilting techniques and learning from trial-and-error, I felt many resources lacked a truly comprehensive guide to take you step by step through the whole process - from design inspiration all the way to binding a quilt. With Simple Geometric Quilting, I want to teach you the foundations of quilting, the techniques you’ll need to become a confident quilter, and create a holistic resource for all things quilting that you can reach for again and again, whether you’re just learning how to quilt or have decades of experience.

I’d also like to encourage you to use the skills and techniques you learn in this book to create your own unique quilt designs. The reason I wrote Simple Geometric Quilting was to inspire you and give you the confidence to make something that’s truly YOU.”
